Creating mindful connections with others

Words are powerful: They can heal and destroy relationships. 

Words are permanent: We cannot take them back.


A mindful but clear communication is essential for creating safety in relational interactions. It can, therefore, decrease anxiety and increase the feeling of belonging and connection.

If an individual perceives a conversation as accusing or threatening, the ancient genetic mechanisms of fight or flight are activated. The individual may respond to the perceived threat or deny the circumstances, which can quickly lead to a downward spiral without winners, rather than opening and exploring “the space between” where people connect and find common ground.
